PhotonControl Issues

hi eveybody.
im running windows 8.1 64bit system.ive opened all ports on my router and added firewall exceptions both incoming and outgoing for the PhotonControl.exe,but it stops running 1 second after starting.
I also only get given the option to run the bin_win32_xp folder.that is the only folder i get in the downloaded SDK.i am using Visual Studios 2012 along with .net 4.5 and have activated .net 3.5 in windows features etc etc.
I have tried compatibility mode for every operating system and run as admin but i just cant get it to run.
ALSO and this is a big problem for me,the tutorial you have which i tried to follow is using an older version of PhotonControl,my photoncontrol does not sit in the system tray and when i minimise it will drop down there but right clicking it for any drop down menus only opens the app and places it on the desktop.
please help me,i dont know what im doing wrong
