Using Photon with iOS App Store encryption export compliance.

We have a game that is in its final stages of development, built with Photon as its networking core. To pass Apple Review (and meet their requirements) any use of encryption needs to be either classed as compliant with exceptions, or get paperwork from a US authority to be allowed to export the software.

The main problem is that none of the exceptions, or rules, or really any of the requirements are actually particularly clear or descriptive. Could someone more knowledgable of the backend of Photon, or anyone who has in the past released a Photon-based iOS app let me know how we should proceed with this (i.e. do we need to sign up with the BIS or is photon exempt to this somehow)?
