Which Windows Server license is required to run Photon Server legally? Is CAL or External Connectors option required?

If you buy your own license the best option is Windows Web Server 2008 R2 (only 64bit):

You do not need CAL or external Connectors.

If you go with a managed hoster you pay about 15-20$ a month for the OS license.
